The 50th Anniversary of Title IX was June 23, 2022. Title IX is a federal law in the United States that prohibits sex discrimination in education programs or activities that receive federal funding. The law was passed as part of the Education Amendments of 1972 and was signed into law by President Richard Nixon on June 23, 1972. The law states: "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance."
I began my photo series, "Eyes on Title IX" during the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Title IX. The series consists of close up portraits of those impacted by the creation of Title IX and a quote from each person.
