I created this photograph May 2021 on a quick visit to my parents house in NJ. It was one of those rare trips where I didn't any kids with me.
"The House that Grandma Built," is a doll house my mother designed and made by hand in the 1980's. I say she made it by hand, as I remember her using paper and fine tip magic markers to draw wallpaper, she cut by hand all of the wood for shingles & flooring herself. She made furniture, she needlepointed little carpets & created she made the home looked lived in. I wanted to document the house before my parents who are now in their 80's, decided to get rid of it. I hadn't intended to create a composite, but as I worked on the photo while watching the New York Mets with my parents, this is what came to be. It was the fastest composite I have ever done. It only took an hour or so (as opposed to days). To me, the photograph represents how time appeared to stand still with the during the COVID lockdown, but it was just the opposite as time Marched on and life continued to thrive.
The photo has appeared in various group exhibitions including Texas Photography Society:TPS 30-International Competition, ASmith Gallery in Johnson City Texas, The Griffin Museum's Lafayette City Center Gallery, on Lenscratch 2021 favorite photograph exhibition & now it will appear in Newton Center Ma. at the Nearby Gallery
