In April of 2022 I was asked to take portraits of renowned biochemist, David Sabatini. The portraits were to be used for his website.
A little bit about David Sabatini:
David Sabatini is a well-known biochemist and cell biologist who has made significant contributions to the field of cancer research. In 2021 he was forced out of MIT’s Whitehead Institute after it was learned he violated the sexual harassment policies and a consensual relationship with a fellow scientist, someone he had mentored. His career and the scientific advances he could be working on have been put on hold.
The Boston Globe’s Spotlight Team article (a 2 part series Jan. 29 & 30, 2023) is long but worth the read. Currently Sabatini is awaiting his turn in court and to reclaim his career.
Sabatini is best known for his discovery of the mTOR pathway, a key regulator of cell growth and metabolism. He has demonstrated that mTOR plays a critical role in the development of cancer, and his findings have led to the development of new cancer treatments.
